When is toughened (safety) glass required by law / Building Regulations?

Approved Document K of the Building Regulations requires safety glass (or suitable guarding) in defined “critical locations” — broadly, glazing in or beside doors, and low-level glazing — to protect people from impact injury. The critical locations are:

• Any glazing wholly or partially within 800mm of floor level
• Glazing within a door
• Glazing beside a door that sits within 300mm of the door edge and up to 1500mm above floor level

If glazing falls within any of these zones, it must be safety glass — this isn’t optional. SevenDay supplies all critical-location glazing as compliant safety glass as standard. Note that compliance sign-off relates to the installation, so for fitted work you’ll need a registered installer (FENSA/CERTASS) or Building Control approval.
