A Korniche bi-fold door doesn’t just open a wall, it removes it. Sashes stack neatly to one side, turning a fixed glazed elevation into a full-width opening that pulls the outdoors into the room. Where a lantern or flat rooflight brings light in from above, a bi-fold door brings it in at eye level, along with the view and the airflow.
Engineered to feel effortless
Every Korniche bi-fold is built around hardware designed to keep working smoothly for years, not just on the day it’s fitted. Sealed bearings on the horizontal and vertical rollers keep debris and moisture out, and an articulated roller shaft exclusive to Korniche balances the load across both wheels as the door moves, so it glides evenly even if the floor isn’t perfectly flat. Q-Lon seals hold their shape and sealing performance long after cheaper foam gaskets have compressed and stopped doing their job.
A finish built to last
Korniche frames are powder coated rather than wet painted, giving a thicker, more consistently smooth coat that resists chipping, scratching and colour fade far better over time. Choose from more than 150 colours including different colours inside and out with bespoke matching handles in grey, brushed stainless steel, white or black.
Glazing made simple
Traditional bi-folds use a separate glazing bead that has to be tightened in with a wedge gasket, slow to fit and easy to get an uneven finish with. Korniche’s patented Speedbead clips straight in, with the gasket pre-fitted, so glass goes in faster and can be replaced cleanly in seconds if a pane is ever damaged.
Advanced Security as standard
Every Korniche bi-fold is certified to PAS24:2016, with a 3-star Yale locking barrel, high-strength shoot-bolts and multi-point locking built in not an optional extra. The shoot-bolt handles include an anti-backdrive feature, so even on doors without a traffic door, the sashes can’t be forced open from outside once closed.

Doors with traffic handles (standard handles) are master doors, giving both internal and external access. Doors with shoot-bolt handles (shown as a single vertical line) lock the sliding sashes from the inside only and don’t provide external access on their own.
Most projects include one traffic door, a sash fitted with a traditional lever handle and integrated locking barrel so there’s everyday access without folding back multiple sashes just to get in and out.
Frequently asked questions
A U-value measures how well a material prevents heat escaping, expressed in watts per square metre per Kelvin (W/m²K). The lower the figure, the better the insulation, a higher U-value means more heat loss, a lower one means better thermal efficiency.
Aluminium conducts heat well, so without insulation, warmth would transfer easily from inside to the colder outside. Korniche frames use polyamide sections between the inner and outer parts of the frame to break that path, improving energy efficiency and comfort.

Bi-fold doors are usually preassembled before delivery, needing only fixing and glazing on site. Kit form outer frame in four pieces, sashes packaged separately is available where access is restricted, such as properties with no route to the fitting location except through the house.
A 3-star barrel has passed additional attack testing beyond a standard one-star cylinder, giving strong resistance to forced entry regardless of handle type. It’s included as standard as part of PAS24:2016 compliance.
New-build extensions and replacement of existing doors usually require trickle ventilation to meet building regulations – check requirements with your installer or building control officer. Korniche vents provide 2500mm² each, with up to three per door set, fitted directly into the head of the outer frame rather than an unsightly (and costly) add-on extender.

Their foam core gives excellent memory, returning to shape even after long periods of compression, while the polyethylene film and polypropylene insert deliver strong sealing performance that won’t stretch or shrink over time.
Sealed bearings keep out debris and moisture, significantly extending bearing life. Korniche rollers include weather-sealing rings on horizontal rollers and nitrile rubber seals on vertical rollers.
Korniche’s roller articulation exclusive to Korniche balances load between the two wheels of a double-wheel axle as the roller moves along the threshold, giving smoother operation, less sensitivity to floor flatness, and a longer product life.
Roller bearings give the lowest friction available. Many competitors use roller bearings only on vertical wheels and plain bushes on horizontal ones but horizontal rollers carry just as much load when the doors are folded fully open, so low friction across all axles matters. The result is smooth operation with minimal friction and no stiction over the doors’ lifetime.
